چکیده
\Wirwille and M1itchell reported that apl)lications of 2'-isoprol)vl-4'(trimethv lammllonium chloride) -5'methylphenvl piperidine-1-carboxvlate (Amo 1618) (fig 1, I) to several types of flowNering plants led to ani abnormial growth habit characterized by shorter stemiis and initernodes (17). Amo 1618 is one of the mllost active of several carbamate esters containiing a q uarternarv ami-moniiumii group which prodluce this effect (12). Cathey has recently reviewed the physiological effects of these and other plant growAlth retardants (2). Sachs et al. ( 15 ) have showni that tl)l)licationi of Amo 1618 leads to a (Irastic redluction of miiitotic activity in the subapical meristem of vegetative, rootedI cuttinigs of (Chr'ysaulic, nuim mnorifoli111. Iln this case. as in numtierouis other ilnstanices rel)orted ill the literature, adde(d gibberellins partly or comllpletely overcome the actioni of plallt growtlh retardanits. [see (2) for a review]. Kend(le, Ninnemann alnd Lang (11) have providled evidence for the proposal that at least somiie of these plant growth retardlants miiay functioln b1 inhibiting the prodtlction of gibberellins in the plant. This proposal was based iniitially on their demonstrationi that the addition of .\m1

Gibberellin Production in Pea Seeds Developing in Excised Pods: Effect of Growth Retardant Amo-1618.
The gibberellin content of pea seeds developing in excised pea pods cultured on a medium containing the plant growth retardant AMO-1618 was reduced in comparison with pea seeds cultured on retardant-free medium. The reduction increased with increasing concentrations of AMO-1618. However, at the lowest concentration tested (5 milligrams per liter) the growth of the seeds was not affected whereas...

Three plant-growth retardants 2'-isopropy1-4'-(trimethylammonium chloride)-5-methylphenylpiperidine carboxylate (Amo 1618), beta-chloroethyltrimethylammonium chloride, and tributyl-2, 4-dichlorobenzylphosphonium chloride were tested for their effects on sterol production in, and growth of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) seedlings. As the concentration of each retardant increased, there was an incre...

متن کاملGROWTH RETARDANTS: Effects on Gibberellin Biosynthesis and Other Metabolic Pathways.
Plant growth retardants are applied in agronomic and horticultural crops to reduce unwanted longitudinal shoot growth without lowering plant productivity. Most growth retardants act by inhibiting gibberellin (GA) biosynthesis. To date, four different types of such inhibitors are known: (a) Onium compounds, such as chlormequat chloride, mepiquat chloride, chlorphonium, and AMO-1618, which block ...
متن کاملInhibition of Gibberellin Production in the Fungi Gibberella fujikuroi and Sphaceloma manihoticola by Plant Growth Retardants.
The effect of different types of plant growth retardants on fungal gibberellin (GA) formation has been studied in cultures of Gibberella fujikuroi and Sphaceloma manihoticola. Quaternary ammonium compounds (chlormequat chloride, mepiquat chloride, Amo-1618), triazoles (uniconazole and several experimental compounds), and the norbornanodiazetine tetcyclacis inhibited GA biosynthesis in both fung...
